Affordable AND Top Quality!
Founder - Jan A. Pedersen

The Bayview story begins with Jan Pedersen, the founder of Bayview Rigging and Sails. Jan has been in and around boats his entire life and has gained invaluable experience along the way. He was born in Norway (the country, not the town!) where his father owned and operated a marina. He started sailing when he was 12 and got his first sailboat a couple of years later, a 25’ double-ended gaff rigged sloop.

He started racing a Snipe when he was 16 and won the Norway National Championship. From there he went on to race in the Finn and Ensign class competitions. During this time he went on an extended cruise on the west coast of Sweden on a 40’ Colin Archer gaff rigged sloop.

When Jan came to the states he raced on a Rhodes 45’ sloop from Maine to Halifax multiple times. He also purchased a Tanzer 22 that he raced in Casco Bay and also used to cruise the coast of Maine. It was at this time the he co-founded a sail loft and started doing sail design. He gained his experience through extensive travel, working closely with other sail makers from his native country, Norway.

His cruising and racing experience includes racing to Bermuda several times and cruising extensively along the Maine coast and down south in Florida and the US Virgin Islands. He has owned a wide variety of sailboats including a Morgan 27, a J-30, a J-36, a C&C 37R, and a C&C 41. He currently owns a C&C37XL named “Phoenix” which he has sailed from Puerto Rico, to Tortola and back to Maine.

Today, Jan’s life long passion with sailing and sail making come through in the quality products he provides for his customers. He understands that it’s more than having the best materials and advanced computer design tools. It’s about people. It’s about getting to know his customers and their needs for sails, rigging, canvas, cushions and much more. It’s about making sure what he sells is going to be right for the person using it and that they are happy about their purchase. And it goes beyond that through the service after the sail (pun intended!).
